The Hartwrights

William of Clerkenleap’s son Richard the Glovemaker b. 1761.

Click here for an explanation of the Branches of the Hartwright Family Richard’s wife Elizabeth Higgins died in her twenties and her touching memorial is in St Kenelm’s Church, Clifton-upon-Teme, Worcs.  Richard does not appear to have remarried and there are not any known descendants. Here is his bookplate. Two families of Hartwrights met for the first time during World War II, one from Lancashire and another from Worcestershire. They discovered that they each had a copy of this 18th century bookplate and realised that they must be related. Richard's brothers were William of Manchester, Lancashire and John of  Swinesherd, near Worcester, the ancestors of the two families who met during World War II.
